Parent Boost Visitor Visa Launches in September 2025

What You Need To Know

From 29 September 2025, parents of New Zealand residents and citizens will be able to apply for a new Parent Boost Visitor Visa.

This is a multi-entry visa that will enable parents of New Zealand citizens and residents to stay in New Zealand for up to 5 years. Visa-holders can reapply once for a further 5 years but must do so offshore (after 3 months living in their home country), to demonstrate ongoing connection to their home country.

The Parent Boost Visa offers another option to parents of NZ citizens and residents. Other existing options include residence visas under the Parent Category, or Parent Retirement Category.

There are extensive requirements, including comprehensive health insurance, funds, and a complete health and insurance check 3 years after the visa is granted.

This is not a pathway to residence but allows families to spend time together over a longer term than is usually allowed. It is designed to serve as an incentive for skilled migrants to choose New Zealand.
